ABSTRACT

Catalonia has a population of approximately 8 million inhabitants. This number has been reached recently and is expected to continue to increase at the current rate of arriving migrants. The demographic increase in European societies is no longer based on natural factors such as births, but rather on the incorporation of inmigrant populations, especially non-Europeans. The objective of this roundtable is to examine how Catalonia is integrating migrations into its collective memory, and to identify specific actions that could inform a policy of memory regarding migrations. To address this issue, we must examine the evolution of collective memory of migrations in Catalonia, as well as its diversity among the various populations of the region, in order to understand how these factors have shaped Catalonia.
