The evolution of Amazigh activism in Morocco has been shaped by political developments both internationally and domestically, as well as by the authoritarian reconfigurations of the Moroccan state. Since its emergence in the late 1970s, its presence in the public sphere, and its relationship with institutional political spaces, have undergone transformations, as did the various actors and forces involved and their demands. This lecture will explore these transformations, from the creation of the first associations to the present day.

A lecture by Ángela Suárez, a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Administration at the University of Salamanca. Her research focuses on politics in North Africa, social movements, and the study of diasporas and migrations. She has carried out research stays at the University of Oxford, Georgetown University, the National Centre for Scientific Research in Rabat (CNRS-Rabat), and the College of Europe in Bruges. Some of her most recent publications include: Navigating turbulent Waters: associative clientelism and the rise and decline of Riffian elites in Morocco (with D.
