On the occasion of the presentation of the publication afkar/ideas nº65, the IEMed and Foreign Policy Studies are organising this symposium on the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the countries of the southern Mediterranean. It will be held in Casa Árabe, Madrid.

To discuss these questions and possible future scenarios in the region, we count on Josep Piqué, co-director of afkar/ideas and CEO of Foreign Policy Studies; Senén Florensa, co-director of afkar/ideas and executive president of the IEMed; Carmen Magariños Casal, director of cooperation with Africa and Asia at AECID and member of the Diplomatic Career since 2007, and Youssef Cherif, deputy director of Columbia Global Centers in Tunisia and political analyst specializing in Maghreb affairs. Introduced by Cristina Juarranz, Deputy Director and Programming Coordinator at Casa Árabe.

Created in 2003 by the IEMed in Barcelona and the Foreign Policy Studies in Madrid, afkar/ideas is a quarterly journal designed as a hybrid publication, between specialisation and dissemination. Published in French and Spanish, afkar/ideas is a space for reflection and debate on North Africa and the Middle East and the relations of the countries on the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean with Europe. The 65th issue of the magazine launches a new, more modern design, with more comfortable and attractive reading.
