The Ateneu Barcelonès, IEMED, and the Institut français of Barcelona invite you to a literary evening with young Franco-Moroccan author Zineb Mekouar, to discover her latest novel Souviens-toi des abeilles (“Remember the Bees”), and with Meritxell Joan Rodríguez, PhD in linguistic, literary, and cultural studies from the University of Barcelona.

Zineb Mekouar

Born in Casablanca in 1991, Mekouar has lived in Paris since 2009. After studying at Sciences-Po and HEC Paris, she first worked in the private sector (strategic consulting, technology) and then in the public sector (Women’s Rights Delegation in the National Assembly, French Delegation to the ILO). Committed to causes related to social harmony, her favorite topics include the figure of the foreigner in the city, gender equality, and the relationship between childhood and adulthood. She has been writing since she was young and discovered literature through poetry. Her first novel, La Poule et son Cumin (“The Hen and its Cumin”), was published in March 2022 by JC Lattès in the La Grenade collection, was a finalist for the Goncourt Prize for First Novel in 2022, and was included in the “Summer 2022 Favorites” list by the Goncourt Academy. In June 2024, she won the “Best Novel of 2024” award from the Points Pocket editions, granted by readers and booksellers.
