The Construction of Narratives about Migrants in the Euro-Mediterranean Region
19 February 2026. From 18:30 | Conference | Spanish | IEMedHow are narratives about migration in the Euro-Mediterranean region produced and circulated and what impact do they have on the public agenda? Drawing on an approach that brings together public opinion, the media and political discourse, we will analyze the growing politicization of migration and its influence on decision-making, as well as on the shaping of political positions and identities. Based on these three dimensions, the main narrative frameworks that structure public debate in the region are identified.
A lecture by Eynel Pilatowsky, an expert in public opinion and citizen perceptions of migration and xenophobia. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a master’s degree in Politics from The New School for Social Research. Her research has focused on Latin America and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on the dynamics of human mobility, migration policies, and the analysis of narratives in host societies. Through a comparative politics approach, her research analyzes similar phenomena in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
