Round Table on Libya
12 April 2012 | Conference | Spanish | IEMed, BarcelonaThe Spanish ambassador to Libya, José Riera Siquier, is taking part in a round table on the new reality in this North African country. His speech focuses on the economic opportunities that may arise for Catalonia and Spain from the new historical stage of this country after the fall of the Gaddafi regime.
Josep Riera encourages representatives of Catalan economic entities and entrepreneurs to take an interest in the North African country both in terms of possible participation in reconstruction projects and to invest in a country with great economic potential in the near future.
In an economic information session organized by the IEMed, Riera explains that although the stabilization of the country and the construction of new democratic institutions will still take time, the situation has improved enough to allow opportunities to begin investment and business in the line that countries like Italy or Turkey are doing.
Among the advances made by Libya, Riera cites the resumption of oil production, the gradual improvement of legal security, agreements with countries such as Egypt, the Philippines and Pakistan for the return of migrant workers, the gradual revitalization of small and medium business or the stability of the Tripoli stock exchange.
The event has the participation of about twenty representatives of Catalan economic entities and entrepreneurs.
