Amid a backdrop of mistrust between neighbours, activists have taken the bold step of bringing together Palestinians, Israelis, and Jordanians around the shared goal of protecting their common environmental heritage.
Founded in 1994, EcoPeace Middle East brings together Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli environmentalists to advance both sustainable regional development and the creation of necessary conditions for lasting peace in the region. The NGO takes a bottom-up approach to educate local constituents, as well as a top-down approach to advance vital policies. In three decades, the organisation has managed to break down borders and barriers, working to change mindsets and ways of thinking. EcoPeace Middle East has been nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize.
