Complementary to the Aula Mediterrània 2021-2022 conference series, the sixth research seminar addresses a wide range of issues affecting the Mediterranean region, bringing together experts and the latest research on various topics related to the Euro-Mediterranean region. The seminar is part of the Aula Mediterrània interuniversity conference program, organized jointly by the IEMed and several master’s degrees from various Catalan universities.
Some of the sessions in this research seminar address issues inherent in current conflicts in the region, historical conflicts, or factors that could become their catalysts in the future. The rest of the sessions deal with topics such as migration, political developments in Egypt and Tunisia or health and climate crises from a historical dimension.
This event has the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Open Government, Victòria Alsina Burgués. In addition, during the seminar, the Aula Mediterrània Awards are given to the best master’s theses on Mediterranean subjects, where they share ideas from the research they have carried out so far and their main objectives with master’s degree teachers from various disciplines and other students.
The winners of this edition are Irene Ceccarelli with the first prize for the master’s these “Motherhood: war, displacement and exile in Modern Arab Literature” (Master’s Degree in Contemporary Arabic Studies, Autonomous University of Barcelona), Laura Terré Llorens with the second prize for “Language policy and education in Morocco” (Master’s in Arab and Islamic World, Universitat de Barcelona) and Mostafa Mohamed ElKordy Abdelmoaty with the third prize for “Rafah Border. Between Terrorism, Exogenous and Endogenous Pressures ”(Master’s in Migration Studies, Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration – Pompeu Fabra University (GRITIM-UPF)).
