Democratic Change in Morocco after the Approval of the New Constitution

Abdelilah Benkiran, Head of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), gives the lecture “Democratic change in Morocco after the approval of the new Constitution” the framework of the visit that begins in Barcelona next Friday 18 May.

In the presentation, the head of government invites Spain, in the difficult circumstances of the economic crisis, to maintain its European position but also to orient itself towards Morocco as a potential partner not only for large investments but also for small ones and medium-sized companies.

Secretary General of the PJD since 2008, Benkiran was appointed head of the Moroccan Government by King Mohamed VI on November 29, 2011 after the PJD was the most voted party in the November 25 legislative elections. The election was held after Morocco approved a new constitution on July 1, 2011.

Benkiran is the first leader of an Islamist party to head a Moroccan government. Since January 3, 2012, he has led a coalition government with the Istiqlal parties, the Popular Movement and the Party of Progress and Socialism.

During the event, the guest also responds to the audience of the room on issues such as the teaching of Amazigh, gender violence, the financing of public infrastructure in Morocco, the model of regionalization, among other issues.
