Presentation of the Spanish edition of the book “My fourth time, we drowned” by Irish journalist and photographer Sally Hayden.

Sally Hayden’s book is based on interviews with hundreds of refugees and migrants who tried to reach Europe and found themselves trapped in Libya. It is therefore an intimate portrait of the lives of these detainees, as well as a denunciation of the fact that immigrants have been turned away in the face of a permanent humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean. The book also tells us about the resilience of human beings, how refugees and migrants locked up for years fall in love, and support each other in the hardest times, and how they carry out small acts of resistance to survive in a system that wants them to shut up and disappear.

For the presentation of the Spanish edition, “Cuando lo intenté por cuarta vez, nos ahogamos” (Capitán Swing), the event includes Anna Surinyach, journalist and photographer of the Spanish 5W magazine. They will discuss how investigative journalism approaches two pressing issues when dealing with human movements in the Mediterranean: the blocking of refugees and migrants in transit countries and the danger of sea crossing.

The event can also be followed live on IEMed’s youtube.
