Transformation of urban economies in the Mediterranean

From 18:30 | Conference | English | IEMedEsen Caglar is Managing Partner of Policy Analytics Lab (PAL) in Ankara, where he directs the analytical work on industrial policy, competitiveness and regional economic development. Caglar has worked with multilateral organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and has advised various governments, including those of Türkiye, Oman, Kazakhstan, Palestine, Cyprus and Ethiopia. As the Deputy Managing Director of the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV), Caglar has managed over twenty projects in Türkiye as well as the Balkans, Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia. He is also an adjunct lecturer at Bilkent University since 2006.
About the conference
This lecture will focus on the evolving landscape of urban economies in the Mediterranean region, with a spotlight on Turkish cities. The discussion will emphasize the critical industrial transformation required to embrace green and digital technologies, exploring strategies for cities to foster sustainable economic growth, enhance job creation in emerging services and industries, and mitigate the socio-economic risks posed by rising artificial intelligence.
