Dialogue for a Constitutional Reform in Morocco
21 May 2011 | Workshop | IEMed, BarcelonaProminent representatives of five Moroccan political parties explain in a debate at the IEMed that the constitutional reform opened by King Mohamed VI on March 9 is a further step in consolidating democracy in Morocco and a response to the expectations and demands that especially young Moroccans have made themselves heard in various demonstrations in the country.
The debate “Dialogue for a constitutional reform in Morocco” is organized by the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME), the Federation of Catalan Cultural Entities of Moroccan Origin (FECCOM), the Federación Entre Orillas and the center Moroccan Achourouq on democracy, the media and human rights.
The event is chaired by Senén Florensa, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Generalitat de Catalunya and Chairman of the Delegate Committee of the IEMed, and is attended by Mohamed Chaib, former Member of the Parliament of Catalonia and Chairman of the Committee of citizenship and political participation of the CCME.
The event counts also with the participation of representatives of the four parties participating in the government of the country (Socialist Union of Popular Forces -USFP-, the Party of Progress and Socialism -PPS-, the National Group of Independents -RNI-, and the Istiqlal), as well as the main opposition party, the Justice and Development Party (PJD).
