Barcelona Summer School of the Mediterranean and the Middle East 2025

From 18:30 | Workshop | English | CCCB (C/ Montalegre, 5 · BCN)On 30 June at 6.30 p.m., a new edition of the Barcelona Summer School of the Mediterranean and the Middle East is to be inaugurated. Co-organised by the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI), Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull, the IEMed and Catalonia International, the summer school will take place between 30 June and 4 July and the deadline for registrations is the 27th of June (more information in the programme).
The opening event will start with a lecture on “The Possibilities of Protest in the Middle East and North Africa” by Neil Ketchley from the University of Oxford, winner of the 2024 Fred Halliday Prize. This will be followed by a debate on “The Future of the Middle East” with Yezid Sayigh from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Monica Marks from New York University Abu Dhabi.
This year’s edition will offer a set of courses on politics and international relations in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, delivered by renowned experts. The courses will be interactive and face-to-face. The topics covered will include the geopolitics of migration, the geopolitics of the Mediterranean, climate change and natural disasters, Palestinian self-determination, gender and politics in the Arab Spring, and the geopolitics of the sea, among others. The programme will also feature cultural outings and visits.
