Palma hosts the 2019 Mediterranean Conference of the European League for Economic Cooperation-LECE

Francina Armengol, President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, open the meeting on Thursday, October 30.
Palma hosts the 15th annual conference on the Mediterranean of the European League for Economic Cooperation (LECE), which in this edition is held under the title ” Promoting Blue Tourism in the Mediterranean “and wants to reflect on the challenges of a region that is the world’s leading tourism destination.
Francina Armengol, President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, will open the meeting on Thursday, October 30 at 4:00 p.m in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands.
The key structural reforms that are necessary to promote sustainable maritime and coastal tourism in the Mediterranean, the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital age, the impact of climate change and diversification through strategies that incorporate rural tourism, are the main issues that will be addressed at the conference.
The conference will be attended by senior national and European officials, representatives of companies and the financial world, and prominent figures from the academic and political world, who make up the LECE, a network that defines itself as “an intellectual pressure group” at the service of the European project . Among others, Vicenç Thomas i Mulet, president of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands; Francesc Homs, president of the Spanish Committee of the LECE; Xavier Bernard-Sans, General Director of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion; Senén Florensa, president of the Mediterranean Commission of the LECE and of the Delegate Commission of the IEMed; Patrick Torrent, president of the Network of European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism; Jérémie Fosse, co-founder and president of Eco-Union, and Brahim Abouelabbes, president of the Association Marocaine pour l’Ecotourisme et la Protection de la Nature.
The conference is organized by the LECE, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion with the support of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and the collaboration of the Cercle d’Economia de Mallorca and APD.
