More than 250 young people from 33 countries participate in the Sea of Words 2018

The Euro-Mediterranean literary competition “A sea of ​​words”, organized by the IEMed and the Anna Lindh Foundation, has made over 250 young people from countries as diverse as Egypt, France, Algeria, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, Turkey, Croatia, the Czech Republic write about the meaning they give to the region’s cultural heritage. In total, in this year’s edition, 33 countries are represented by young writers.

The motto of the eleventh edition of this competition is “Memory and Identity: Rethinking Cultural Heritage”, and is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

As always, the competition is aimed at young people aged between 18 and 30 from the 43 countries participating in the Union for the Mediterranean (the 28 in the EU and the 15 on the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean) with the will to offer them a way of expression on current issues throughout the region.

Awards

The authors of the 15 best texts -selected by an international jury- will be invited to Barcelona between 19 and 21 September to attend the awards ceremony and to take part in different cultural activities in the city, including a literary workshop at the Beckett Room. In addition, the 15 winning stories will be published in an anthology.
