The Euro-Mediterranean literary contest “A Sea of Words”, organised by the IEMed and the Anna Lindh Foundation, has encouraged 244 youths to write about their approach to the cultural heritage of the region. They are from countries as diverse as Egypt, France, Algeria, Libya, Spain, Morocco, Turkey, Croatia and the Czech Republic. In total, this year there are young writers from up to 26 Euro-Mediterranean countries.

The motto of the 12th contest is “Youth commitment to social change”. As always, the contest is aimed at youths aged between 18 and 30 from the 43 countries in the Union for the Mediterranean (28 from the EU and 15 from the southern and eastern Mediterranean) with the objective of giving them a platform to express their views on issues affecting the whole region.

The authors of the 10 best texts – selected by an international jury – will be invited to Barcelona between 25 and 27 September to attend the awards ceremony and participate in different cultural activities in the city, including a literary workshop at the Sala Beckett. Moreover, the 10 winning stories will be published in an anthology.
