Josep Giralt, new director of the Museum of Lleida

The director of exhibitions and cultural activities of the IEMed since 2002, Josep Giralt, has been appointed new director of the Museu de Lleida. The Museum’s Executive Committee has valued his extensive experience in project management in very diverse areas of culture, from museum institutions to music festivals, as well as his experience as an advisor on the contents of the Museum of Lleida.

During these years at the IEMed, Giralt has organized the exhibitions “Tunisia, land of cultures” (2003) and “Mediterraneum” (2004), as well as other exhibitions of the IEMed in Greece, Syria, Egypt , Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, as well as cultural activities such as “Ramadan Nights”.

Graduated in Geography and History and with Master’s in Museology and Heritage Management from the University of Barcelona, ​​Giralt was between 1981 and 2002 director of the Museu de la Noguera (Balaguer). During this period he specialized in Islamic archeology in Catalonia and organised the exhibitions “Islamic Archeology in the Superior Mark of Andalusia” (1988) and “Islam and Catalonia” (1998). He is a member of the scientific committees of the Euromed Heritage, RehabiMed and Montada projects (Traditional Architecture in the Mediterranean and the Maghreb), and a member of the executive board of ICOM-España.
