Communiqué on the occasion of the Paris attacks
14 November 2015 | Corporate news
The European Institute of the Mediterranean wants to make public its rejection and strong condemnation of the attacks that took place in the French capital last night on November 13.
At the same time, the IEMed expresses its condolences to the families of the victims as well as its solidarity with the citizens of Paris, France and all the French researchers and experts who collaborated with us.
For an institution that has been striving for twenty-five years to promote dialogue and cooperation between the peoples of Europe and the Mediterranean, the use of violence is unfortunate news. Even more so if it is a terrorist act that hides itself behind religion and indiscriminately attacks civilians. Europe now has an obligation to protect its citizens, strengthen security and combat radicalization within its societies.
At the same time, Europe – together with the rest of the Arab countries and regional powers – must assume its responsibility and its role in resolving open conflicts, such as that of Syria, which are at the root of a violence that has the ambition to spread throughout the Middle East and is aimed at Europe.
