Med Dialogues +2030

Ideas for a Sustainable Mediterranean

The Med Dialogues +2030 is an annual conference series organised and promoted by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, the Barcelona Office of the Club of Rome, and “la Caixa” Foundation, which fosters debate on sustainable development issues in the Mediterranean region.

By giving voice to renowned experts and actors from both shores of the Mediterranean Sea and a variety of backgrounds, the Med Dialogues +2030 seek to raise greater awareness and understanding of the critical sustainability challenges faced by Mediterranean countries.

Launched in 2021 as the region was entering the “Decade of Action”, the Med Dialogues +2030 adopts each year a different approach to the implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), putting forward analyses and recommendations to contribute to building a more resilient, sustainable, prosperous, inclusive, and safer Mediterranean region by 2030.

Edition 2026

The Mediterranean Urban Challenge: Housing, Mobility and Social Cohesion

This year, the Med Dialogues +2030 will focus on Sustainable Development Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, exploring how Mediterranean cities can become more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. Across the region, cities are facing interconnected challenges such as housing affordability, mobility, environmental degradation, urban sprawl, and social inequality. SDG 11 offers both a framework and a call to rethink how urban spaces evolve and respond to the needs of their communities.

As one of the world’s most urbanised regions, the Mediterranean has long been shaped by cities that act as centres of exchange, coexistence, and cultural creation. Today, however, these urban areas are undergoing rapid transformation driven by demographic pressure, tourism, climate risks, and uneven development. Balancing innovation with the protection of cultural heritage and social cohesion has become an urgent priority.

Med Dialogues +2030 (2026 Edition)

In this context, the Med Dialogues +2030 6th Edition will bring together urban planners, policymakers, architects, researchers, and civil society actors to explore practical and locally grounded solutions. Through six sessions, speakers and practitioners will share initiatives addressing affordable housing, sustainable mobility, public space design, heritage preservation, waste management, and climate resilience, contributing to more liveable and inclusive Mediterranean cities.

This MedDialogues +2030 2025 edition review offers key insights from the previous edition of the series, highlighting the voices of changemakers from across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Featuring individuals and organizations whose groundbreaking initiatives are driving real impact, this edition showcases innovative solutions and transformative actions shaping the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas, and marine resources.
