ABSTRACT

Through the analysis of several case studies, the lecture focuses on the context of conflict in the kingdom of Sicily during the 16th and 17th centuries. From this evaluation emerge various reflections regarding the power dynamics and/or loyalty between the royal authority and the powerful Sicilian feudalism, the influence of the Inquisition, the role of urban elites, and the control of resource management at the local level, as well as international intrigues and autonomist aspirations.
