The Med Dialogues +2030 Launch a New Edition Focused on a Sustainable Mediterranean
7 October 2025 | Press release
Barcelona, 7 October 2025 — The Med Dialogues +2030 series opens today at Palau Macaya with a call to action for a sustainable and resilient Mediterranean. The fifth edition of this initiative focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water, promoting the conservation and sustainable use of the region’s seas and marine resources.
The opening dialogue, “Towards a Plastic-Free Mediterranean,” features Ahmed Yassin, Director of Enaleia Egypt, an NGO that mobilises over 3,000 fishers across the Mediterranean to collect marine plastic and foster circular economy models. The session begins today at 6 p.m. and will be held in English with simultaneous translation.
Organised by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Barcelona Office of the Club of Rome, in collaboration with the “la Caixa” Foundation, the Med Dialogues +2030 bring together marine scientists, policy experts, environmental activists, academics, and community leaders. Their shared mission: to exchange experiences and highlight projects already making an impact in fields such as sustainable fisheries, marine conservation, the blue economy, and ecosystem restoration.
All sessions are moderated by Laura Secorun, Director of the environmental communications agency Meridian.
