The corporate sustainability within the EU framework. Analysis of practices in the Mediterranean area

The European Union (EU) has implemented a series of regulatory instruments on sustainability to address environmental, social and economic challenges. These instruments are designed to promote sustainable practices in various sectors and range from directives to regulations and comprehensive strategies. This presentation examines the key instruments and their corresponding policies, as well as the challenges that this regulatory ecosystem faces in its projection in the Euro-Mediterranean area.
María del Carmen Márquez Carrasco is professor and director of the Department of Public International Law and International Relations at the Universidad de Sevilla. She teaches Public International Law, as well as International Organizations and Human Rights. She has been a visiting professor at universities such as Oxford in the United Kingdom or Columbia, in New York. Her interests encompass international law, as well as human rights and international organizations. As a researcher she leads a Research Group on human rights within global society, and has authored several publications and books. Recently, she published a monograph “The European Union and Non-State Actors” (2019) in addition to books such as “The 10th Anniversary of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: Challenges of Rights Due Diligence humans and environment and the rights of indigenous peoples” (2022).
