Cyprus Hosts International Conference on the Future of Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation

3 June 2026 | Press release

EuroMeSCo, the leading Euro-Mediterranean network of think tanks specializing in politics and security, will hold its annual conference in Cyprus on 5–6 June. The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) serves as the network’s secretariat.

More than 70 experts from the network’s 100-plus think tanks across Europe and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean will present and discuss practical policy recommendations aimed at adapting Euro-Mediterranean cooperation to an increasingly fragmented and competitive geopolitical environment, one whose effects are particularly visible in a highly interconnected region such as the Mediterranean.

The conference programme includes plenary sessions on migration management, cooperation for post-conflict reconstruction in Syria, and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the Gulf. Parallel sessions will address geopolitics and connectivity in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as the emergence of new state strategies and multipolar alignments in the current geopolitical context.

The conference, hosted by the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus, will open on Friday, 5 June. Institutional speakers include Henrike Trautmann, Director for the Middle East at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf (DG MENA), and Cecilia García, Director for Cooperation with Africa, the Arab World and Asia at the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
