The Sustainable Development Goals in the Mediterranean: Alliances for a Sustainable Transition22 October 2020. From 09:00 | Conference | English | Online
Within the framework of the “Mediterranean Dialogues + 25” organized by the Generalitat de Catalunya in collaboration with the IEMed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Process (1995-2020), a new dialogue addresses the necessary transitions to the Mediterranean to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Meeting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda is especially necessary in the Mediterranean region, one of the areas most directly affected by climate change and with significant challenges in terms of existing inequalities among its population.
In the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, this conference proposes its implementation by identifying the necessary transitions in terms of economic system, social behavior and governance. It also points out the relevant alliances (global, regional, national and local) to be promoted in the field of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation to achieve the goals set by the 2030 Agenda.
The Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the European Union of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Elisabet Nebreda, and the Director General of the IEMed, Josep Ferré, open the conference. Twenty experts, heads of multilateral institutions and government representatives and civil society organizations from various Euro-Mediterranean countries are taking part in the various debates scheduled throughout the day.
