Diversity of Muslim women and media
21 March 2023. From 10:00 To 12:00 | Presentation | Spanish | Catalan | IEMedAfter 2 years of work, the EU-funded Magic project presents proposals in Barcelona to broaden the diversity of Muslim women in the Media.
Magic (Muslim Women and Communities Against Gendered Islamophobia in Society) is a project co-financed by the EU Equality and Citizenship Program (2014 – 2020) that aims to prevent gender Islamophobia in Spain and Belgium, particularly in the Media, and draw lessons applicable to other European countries.
This is a project carried out by a consortium led by the IEMed and made up of the Media Diversity Institute Global, the Collectif pour l’Inclusion et contre l’Islamophobie en Belgique and the Al Fanar Foundation for Arab Knowledge.
The project has been carried out over a period of two years (2021-2023) and has included, on the one hand, the monitoring and analysis of information from Belgian and Spanish newspapers for 15 months and, on the other, collaboration in various formations and discussions with leaders of Muslim communities, Muslim women and civil society organizations working in diversity, as well as journalism students, to raise awareness of these reporting biases and encourage the inclusion of Muslim voices in the media.
The results are presented at the IEMed on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, one day after the closing event of the project, entitled Muslim Voices for Diversity Dialogue, which will take place in the European Parliament and one week after its presentation at Casa Arabic (Madrid).
