Climate Crisis and Gender Equality: Emerging Security Risks in the Euro-Mediterranean Region

From 12:30 To 13:30 | Conference | English | CyprusWithin the High-Level Conference on Women for the Mediterranean on 30,31 May 2024, co-organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Commissioner for Gender Equality of the Republic of Cyprus, the IEMed is co-organising the session Climate Crisis and Gender Equality: Emerging Security Risks in the Euro-Mediterranean Region.
The contents of the session will be part of the second MedWE policy study, to be released in 2025, and will contribute to the contents of the RoadMap for Implementation of the Ministerial Declaration 2024-2025, which aims to operationalize the 5th UfM Ministerial Declaration on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, adopted in October 2022 in Madrid.
During the High-Level Conference on Women for the Mediterranean, the first policy study of the MedWe programme will be presented by Gemma Aubarell, Director of Culture, Gender, and Civil Society at the IEMed. The MedWE (Mediterranean Women Empowerment) Programme is a joint initiative of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) whose primary goal is to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Within the framework of MedWE, a series of joint activities focusing on gender issues will be organised, including seminars and conferences that will bring together researchers, policymakers, and civil society members to generate fruitful dialogue and exchange knowledge and experiences to promote gender equality in the region.
