Selection process
We have received 211 short stories from 37 countries: 34 from the Euro-Mediterranean area and 3 from countries of the Balkans. Click here to consult the information country by country.
The national networks of the participating countries have formed the National Juries. These juries have selected between 1 and 5 short stories (depending on the total number received) and have promoted their translation into English or French. The National Juries, through the IEMed, have sent the best short stories to the International Jury.
The authors of the pre-selected short stories have received notification by e-mail.
International selection
The Anna Lindh Foundation in coordination with the IEMed has formed an International Jury (enlace a la página del jurado internacional). The International Jury will present the 30 short stories selected based on quality criteria to the IEMed and the Anna Lindh Foundation.
See the names of the authors of the 30 short stories selected.
Awards ceremony
The 30 winners will be invited with the International Jury to the awards ceremony in Barcelona on 9th and 10th July 2008.
The awards ceremony will take place on 9th July in the framework of a cultural event. On this occasion, the International Jury will announce the three best short stories of the competition, whose authors will receive a special mention.
The activities will continue on the 10th with a forum of exchange on intercultural dialogue and other visits and events of cultural interest.
These activities are coordinated by the IEMed and organised in collaboration with governmental institutions and local organisations which are members of the Spanish network of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
These activities will be aimed at promoting knowledge and debate on the themes covered by the authors and at creating a space of dialogue, presenting the point of view of the young authors to the local communities. The activities will include:
- reading of the winning short stories by the authors
- roundtables and debates on the themes covered by the authors in relation to the activities and projects of the promoting organisations
- visits of cultural interest
More detailed information about the activities will be published on the “activities” page in the next few weeks.
The 30 best short stories will be published in a book that will be translated into Spanish, French, English and Arabic. All the participants in the competition will receive a complimentary copy.
The short stories we have received have confirmed both the desire for collaboration between national networks and the willingness of young people to participate in this process of mutual understanding. The short stories we have received offer original and different points of view on models of interculturality and dialogue. We would like to thank all the participants for their contributions to this effort.
