Quaderns de la Mediterrània
New releases
Quaderns de la Mediterrània forms part of the series of projects of the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) that contribute to intercultural dialogue. This journal is the result of the will to contribute to research and study on the Mediterranean . Edited by the anthropologist Maria-Àngels Roque, the publication seeks to publicise the reality of the Mediterranean in current events such as migration, shifting values and the sociological, economic and political processes of the peoples that inhabit it and to be a forum of debate on the intercultural future of our societies. In each issue, Quaderns de la Mediterrània dedicates a central dossier to a key subject, as well as including articles on current events, a miscellany on cultural, anthropological and sociological aspects and a book review section.
Number 12
Spiritualities and Representations in Intercultural Dialogue / Espiritualidades y representaciones en el diálogo intercultural
Religion is a key element in Euro-Mediterranean dialogue given its position within cultures as a symbol of creed and belonging. These essential elements, which have often been used to separate rather than unite, form part of a shared imaginary that the central dossier of this issue of Quaderns de la Mediterrània seeks to explain.
Jóvenes y desafíos mediterráneos / Youth and Mediterranean Challenges
"The Barcelona Process can and does improve the basic economic, social, political and educational conditions in the Mediterranean.(...)Assertions that the Barcelona Process has failed because it is too ambitious ignore the fact that it is called a process precisely because it is a social modernisation project (...). In this context, the young, to whom we dedicate the dossir of this issue of Quaderns de la Mediterrània, play a fundamental role, as they can act as a bridge between the shores of the Mediterranean".
Intercultural Dialogue between Europe and the Mediterranean / El diálogo intercultural entre Europa y el Mediterráneo
Under the auspices of the Euromed, in the framework of the Year of the Intercultural Dialogue Europe – Mediterranean, this issue gathers the thoughts of writers and intellectuals from the European Union countries as well as the countries of the South and East of the Mediterranean, which bring us plural views, knowledge, sensitivities and some instrumental elements to establish a better dialogue.
Ramon Llull y el islam, el inicio del diálogo / Ramon Llull and Islam, the Beginning of Dialogue
In this issue of Quaderns de la Mediterrània , “Ramon Llull and Islam, the Beginning of Dialogue”, we offer contributions by different specialists on the Catalan-Majorcan philosopher, the science and thought he studied and developed and the difficulties for dialogue in medieval times. Some of these contributions are also a reflection on current affairs from the perspective of the Lullian figure.
Mass Media and Mutual Perceptions / Medios de comunicación y percepciones mutuas
With the objective of improving reciprocal understanding and warning of the risk we are incurring because of unilateral visions, of failure to meet and, especially, of the so-called information war, we dedicate the current number to the issue « Mass Media and Mutual Perceptions ». Most of the contributions of the dossier and also of the other sections of this number are the efforts of professionals who work in the national and international media, and who are aware of the issues inherent in communication and their effect effects on perceptions.
Women in the Mediterranean Mirror / Les femmes dans le miroir méditerranéen
The objective of the dossier “Women in the Mediterranean Mirror” is that of giving
a voice to the civil society of different ideological tendencies, with the end of achieving
substantial reflections for dialogue and making positive initiatives in the field of gender
equality explicit. Different contributions of women and men, which from the association, academic, political and artistic world openly and creatively help reflection.
Visiones contrastadas / The Mediterraneans. Comparative visions
The dossier of issue number 5 of Quaderns de la Mediterrània is devoted to to the values of contemporary societies with articles by renowned experts including Ronald Inglehart, Manuel Castells, Michel Wieviorka and Mohamed Tozy, among others. This issue is complemented by two new sections, ‘Overview of recent events' and ‘Cultural Overview'.
The dossier of issue number 4 of Quaderns de la Mediterrània is devoted to ‘Comparative Visions of the Mediterranean' This is not, however, a dossier that highlights Mediterranean values, as might have been the case ten years ago. Instead, its contributions focus on the difficulties and challenges ahead. This issue is complemented by two new sections, ‘Overview of recent events' and ‘Cultural Overview'.
All the articles in this issue of Quaderns de la Mediterrània went to press before 11th September 2001. Undoubtedly, the authors would have wanted to include in their writings a strong condemnation of the terrorist attacks in the cities of New York and Washington. Quaderns de la Mediterrània unreservedly expresses this condemnation and rejects any attempt to sow hatred and uncertainty among the peoples and cultures that share the shores of the Mediterranean.
Los retos de la interculturalidad en el Mediterráneo
The monograph of this first issue is devoted to the challenges of interculturality in the Mediterranean. European and Mediterranean societies are increasingly multicultural and complex in the development of their relations. Long term conflicts as well as the stereotypes generated by the prevailing situation, although acquiring a determinist scope, do not help to provide an overall vision of Mediterranean interculturality which, in fact, has a certain family character, resulting from encounters and confrontations throughout the history of this inner sea.
