VIII Day of Peace
The association Unesco Friends in Barcelona, with the support of the EIMed
and other institutions, organises the VIII Day of Peace. The aim of this
event is to offer a wide vision of the African continent, and the programme
includes
many different activities: exhibitions, film projections, conferences, documentaries
and the II School Literary Contest in Mother Tongues. (+)

World Congress of Middle East Studies
The
EIMed and the Royal Institute for Interfaith Studies,
in collaboration with the Anna Lindh Foundation for
the Dialogue between Cultures, organises, in the
framework of the World Congress of Middle East Studies
held in Amman (Jordan), a roundtable entitled “Inter-cultural
dialogue in the Mediterranean”. It is a meeting
of academics, researchers, students and professionals
of several institutions, organisations and associations
from all over the world. They all have a common interest
in Middle East, North Africa and Muslim Central Asia
studies, as well as in the world areas directly or
indirectly affected by the events in those regions. (+)

Course “Food
heritage, local development and tourism in the Mediterranean Europe”
This
course is orientated at students and professionals
of the fields of agriculture and food, tourism, social
sciences and humanities, interested in studying,
on the one hand, the role of local dishes and food
in the territorial and tourist revitalization of
a region, and on the other hand, the social and cultural
aspects related with food heritage. The course is
led by Luis Cantarero, lecturer in the University
of Zaragoza, and it gives university credits. (+)

III Mediterranean University Forum
This
Forum is organised by the University of Malta
and the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue
between Cultures. Its main target is the creation
of a common debate platform on Euro-Mediterranean
questions from an academic perspective. Therefore,
the Forum is an opportunity to dialogue and exchange
experiences about academic cooperation, and to
set the principles of the future coordination
between existing initiatives in the region.
The meeting is taking place in Malta, and it is
structured in three main roundtables: North-South
common professional challenges; the creation of a
Euro-Mediterranean Superior Education Area; and the
European education programmes and their importance
in the Euro-Mediterranean zone.
The general director of the EIMed, Senén
Florensa, will participate in the first roundtable
to talk about the professional demand in the Southern
Mediterranean countries, the role of Europe and the
new curricula in the Mediterranean region. (+)

Conference “Towards
an action plan to strengthen the role of women in
society”
Regional
meeting in Rabat (Morocco), in the framework of the
preparation process of the Ministerial Conference
Euromed, to be held in Istanbul in November 2006.
The aims of this conference are: to establish a diagnosis
regarding progress, opportunities and duties of women
comparable to those of men; to stress current formation
and reform experiences in the region; and to formulate
specific questions to integrate them in the Action
Pan Euromed to strengthen the role of women in our
society (2007-2011).

Walls that divide Arabs
and Jews in Israel
As
a continuation of the publishing of the report “Behind the Walls: Walls
that divide Arabs and Jews in Mixed Cities and Districts in Israel” in
December 2005, the Arab Human Rights Association (HRA), in coordination with
the Arab-Jew Centre and the University of Haifa, organises this conference, which
will be held on June 4th 2006 in the University of Haifa. Its aim is to analyse
academically the affair of the dividing walls in Israel and to establish a new
platform to collect proposals and solutions to eliminate them. In the University

series of conferences “Spain: 10 years in the
EU” with the conference “Proposals for
the future of Europe”

Borrell, President of the European Parliament, will
hold a conference in the Catalan Parliament, on June
8th 2006 at 18h. Other Spanish personalities who
had an important role in the European institutions
will also give speeches (Pedro Solbes, Enrique Barón,
José María Gil-Robles, Manuel Marín,
Abel Matutes, Antoni Castells and Manel Fabra, among

International seminar “Ibn
Khaldun and his time, the Civilisations Alliance,
a challenge for the future”
On
the occasion of the VI centenary of Ibn Khaldun’s
death, the Foundation Three Cultures and the Foundation
Andalusian Legacy organise a commemorative exhibition
and an international seminar entitled “Ibn
Khaldun and his time, the Civilisations Alliance,
a challenge for the future”. The meeting will
take place on June 7th-10th and has the aim to analyse
the international context in which Ibn Khaldun lived,
presenting his works and his contribution to the
knowledge of the Muslim world of that time. During
three days, debates will be held in several places
in Granada. The congress will gather prestigious
specialists in the works of the Arab philosopher. (+)

II World Social Forum on Migration
The
World Social Forum on Migration is a venue for democratic debates on ideas, for
reflection, proposals, exchange of experiences and articulation of social movements,
networks, NGOs and other organisations of civil society which oppose the neo-liberal
globalization led by the big corporations and the ones which serve their interests
and the consequences of their power.
It is a world-wide process aimed at the building of a different world and
a society orientated to a fecund relation between human beings and between humans
and the Earth, to consolidate a globalisation based on solidarity, in which the
rights of foreigners and their integration in the host country are recognised
all over the world. After the first world-wide meeting, held in 2005 in Porto
Alegre (Brazil), the Forum was seen as a continuous world-wide process to find
solutions at an international level. (+)
