Course “Euro-Mediterranean Project and European neighbourhood policy
after the Barcelona summit: what role do local players
play?”
This
course is co-organised by the EIMed and the Regional
Government of Barcelona. The future of the Euro-Mediterranean
partnership from the perspective of the local
world will be explained, insisting on the new
framework of relations which will mean the implementation
of the neighbourhood policy in the Mediterranean.
Local actors contribute in an important way to
the development of the Barcelona Process, although
this involvement has not been seen up to date.
The 10th anniversary of the Euro-Mediterranean
project in 2005 was the occasion to take stock
of it and now a global reflection on the new
context of the Process is necessary. In the course,
the main challenges in strategic fields for the
Catalan local cooperation will be explained by
with experts and players, combining theory and
practice, and it is aimed at players and students
interested in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
Directed by Helena Olivan (EIMed) and Paqui Santoja
(Regional Government of Barcelona). It gives
ECTs.

Summer course “Berbers in North Africa and
emigrants”
The
Berber culture has a millenary language, the Tamazight,
which has coexisted with the great historic currents
of the Mediterranean civilization. It is now a minorized
culture, not a minority one, because nowadays 60%
of the Moroccan population speaks this language,
and 30% in Algeria, 30% in Libya, 15% in Tunisia
and 1% in the Siwa oasis, in Egypt. Women have preserved
this culture with their oral literature and handicrafts.
The many Tamazight speaker emigrants have created
an associative world in Europe, and they have a notorious
presence in means of communication. The aim of the
course is that pupils learn the plurality of this
culture in the origin countries (North Africa) and
in the European countries. It is aimed at people
who want to know more about the Mediterranean migration
and multi-culture, because it Catalonia and in Spain
nearly 80% of the Moroccan immigrants come from the
Berber culture.
