Lectures on migration in Africa and border areas at the IEMed
11/03/10- Pau Baizán, Research Fellow at the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and the sociologist Mehdi Lahlou, have dealt with migration issues in Africa and border areas in two lectures delivered at the IEMed. These form part of the series “Comparative Migration Policy” and “Contemporary Migration in Mediterranean Europe”.

The association Combatants for Peace explains its fight for peace in the Middle East
09/03/10- At the IEMed, Gitit Bar-El, from Israel, and Maha Staiti, from Palestine, have explained the efforts of Combatants for Peace to achieve a peaceful solution in the Middle East. This organisation, made up by former Israeli and Palestinian combatants, promotes a culture of peace and highlights the cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians, the state of the conflict and the prospects for peace.
The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean gets underway in Barcelona
04/03/10- The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the partnership in which the EU and the 16 southern and eastern Mediterranean countries work for stability, prosperity and dialogue in the region, has presented its headquarters and secretary-general. Today, the Secretary-General of the UfM, Ahmad Masadeh, has been officially introduced in a formal ceremony at the Palau de Pedralbes, the headquarters of this international organisation. Four Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Spain, Egypt, Jordan and France) and many authorities participated. Senén Florensa, Director General of the IEMed, also took part in the event which represents the start of a new stage of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, born in Barcelona in 1995.
The Anna Lindh Forum for cultural dialogue brings together
Euro-Mediterranean civil society in Barcelona
04/03/10- In Barcelona from 4th to 7th March, more than 800 distinguished representatives of civil society from 43 Euro-Mediterranean countries are participating in a forum organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the IEMed. The objective is to debate ideas to promote cultural dialogue and cooperation in the Mediterranean and take the final conclusions to the summit of the Union for the Mediterranean, to be held in Barcelona in June.
